Talking points for Week 1

The first few weeks of the NFL season, generally weeks one thru four, are the most difficult to predict because the majority of stats are based on the previous years performance. Typically week one predictions, straight up, are correct in the 60% range. It is interesting to note that in 2007 the Over/Unders for all regular season games were such that about 49% of all game totals were 42 points or less and the other 49% of all game totals were 44 or more. Yes, just slightly more than 2% of the games were 43 point totals. Last year we started posting Over/Unders for all games starting at week 6. It may be even more interesting to note that of all the predicted totals posted on the Upset Report, a 6 point "teaser" would place over 71% of the Over/Unders on the winning side of the Vegas line.
